Education and experience
Dr. David Lefkowitz combines expertise in clinical psychology with a passion for helping people. Since 1992, he has been director of the Family Crisis Intervention Program for the Bikkur Cholim Hesed organization. Among many other responsibilities, he has taught over 10,000 students and trains numerous interns. Working to provide effective care for families in crisis has given Dr. Lefkowitz a wealth of experience in understanding the needs of families, young people and adults struggling with adversity. Before opening a private practice, Dr. Lefkowitz was a psychologist at Ohel Tikva, which provides culturally sensitive services for the Jewish community. He also does advocacy work for the disabled community in Staten Island.
After earning his Ph.D. in psychology from Hofstra University, Dr. Lefkowitz became an Assistant Professor at CUNY Kingsborough. In sessions with clients, he combines academic expertise in the sources and nature of mental health with a deep personal concern for each unique individual.
